Becca's Adventures at the X-Files Movie Premiere June 11th, 1998

The idea to go to the X-Files movie premiere came to me one day out of nowhere. "Wouldn't it be cool to see Gillian and David arrive at the red carpet of the theater?" I thought. I never expected it to become a possibility, let alone happen.

But it did happen on June 11th. After leaving home at 6 am for a six hour car drive and sitting for another six hours on a hot LA sidewalk, I found myself watching David and Gillian walk down that red carpet.

It didn't matter that I didn't have tickets to attend the premiere itself, and it didn't matter that I would come home with no autographs. Just the prospect of being able to see the entire cast of The X-Files in person was enough to keep me awake for three nights in a row.

After waiting for about 6 hours, the X-Files fans waiting in line on a sidewalk were escorted to the fan bleachers just outside the theatre. There, we sat anxiously for a little over an hour as we waited. The movie soundtrack (which we were given free copies of as we approached the bleachers beforehand) played on huge speakers over and over and over again. We watched as various members of the press assembled into the fenced in areas throughout the length of the red carpet. E! Online started throwing t-shirts into the crowds of fans, which caused quite a commotion. We waited.. and waited.. and watched the host of "Access Hollywood" eat pizza. :oP

Then the limos started to arrive. Kevin and Bean acted like something exciting was happening .. Security guards took their positions. That's when we begin to get excited.

Slowly, the stars started arriving and stepping up to the platform as Kevin and Bean asked them questions. As each person arrived, the fans in the bleachers got more and more excited. We knew that any second now Gillian and David would be there.

When it was announced that David had arrived, I almost went deaf. Screams roared through the air all around me and for a short moment, I regretted being in the front row. The girl standing in the row behind me literally fell over on top of me, causing me to scrape my leg on the bleachers (I still have a scar). I didn't notice anything that was going on around me, though. I was too excited to think straight. If David had just arrived, Gillian couldn't be too far behind.

Sure enough, just minutes later, it was announced that Gillian had arrived. I stopped breathing. The screams returned, more powerful then ever, and I regained my breathe as I heard Gillian laughing about her shawl. I thought, "Wow! It really is her! It's the laugh! Ohmigod! It's the laugh!" I quickly leaned over and made sure my dad was getting everything on tape with his camcorder and reminded my mom to "save most of the film in that camera for Gillian and David."

It wasn't long before David made his way down the red carpet. I screamed and waved along with everyone around me.

As David made his way to our side of the bleachers and looked up in our direction, my brother and I began saying, "Aahh!! He just saw me!!" My mom was busy taking pictures, and in the process yelled out, "Tea!! Move your head!!" Later, she worried about whether or not Tea actually heard her.

At this point, I leaned forward to try and see Gillian make her entrance onto the red carpet. My heart was beating incredibly fast, and I had never felt so excited in my life. I had never seen Gillian before in person . I watched her make her way up the other end of the carpet, posing for the cameras. Any second now she would turn around to face us.

My thoughts were interrupted for a moment as my mom called my name. "Becca!! Isn't that Gillian's brother and sister??" .. "Oh! It is!!" I pointed them out to my brother. "Look! It's Aaron and Zoe! Whoa!"

My attention turned back to Gillian as she turned to face the bleachers for the first time. She waved to the middle section, and her eyes made her way down to the end of the bleachers, where I was sitting. She began to lower her hand, until she saw us practically falling out of the bleachers, waving. Then her hand came up a little bit and she waved directly at us (well, I'd like to think so, anyway) before turning back to the cameras. My brother and I turned to each other. "She saw me! She saw me!"

A girl sitting a few people down from me yelled out, "Gillian, you look great!!!!" Even though she was faced the other way, to the sea of flashing lights, we could still hear Gillian yell in response, "Thank you!!" The girl who had yelled to Gillian started screaming. "She said THANK YOU to MEEEE!!!!"

Meanwhile, Aaron and Zoe were giving us weird looks. That sure made me laugh. We must have looked like freaks.

Before we knew it, Gillian turned around to wave again, and again, looked right at us. As she left the bleacher section of the red carpet, I felt like I was going to faint. My brother and I turned to each other once more. "Did you see that? She made eye contact with me!!" .."No she didn't!! She made eye contact with ME!!" ..

I thought that was the last time Gillian would turn to look at us. But I was wrong. Later, while being interviewed for Access Hollywood, she turned towards us and waved. Looked from left .. to right .. at all the fans and saying, "Hi!!" Only Gillian knows whether the next part is actually true. But I swear .. she saw our camcorder at this point. She looked right into it and waved. I only realized it when I went to watch the tape from the premiere. She scanned the crowds of people in the bleachers. But then her eyes stopped. They fell on something. Our camcorder. It sure makes my premiere tape worthwhile to watch.

And as she turned around to finish the Access Hollywood interview, I felt suddenly satisfied. Seeing Gillian (and David) was all I had ever wanted. And it had happened. Just like that. I didn't know how to react. And I can't really remember how I did react. But whatever I did at that point was caught on tape. Out of the corner of my eye I saw an E! video camera zoom over us.

Sure enough, my family and I showed up on quite a few entertainment shows during the next week.

The rest of the night was a blur. We watched David and Gillian from a distance, being interviewed, rushed along, interviewed, .. until finally they disappeared into the theatre. It was all over.

That one hour was the most exciting hour of my life. On the way home that night, my parents discussed how much of a pain in the butt the driving and driving and waiting and waiting was, but we agreed that it was worth it.
